Tshwane has started to implement level 2 restrictions after Rand Water throttled the water supply by over 30%.

Level 1 water restrictions were previously in effect.

High water usage during persistent high temperatures and pumping challenges due to load-shedding are being blamed.

As of Thursday, the Mapleton system that supplies the eastern parts of Tshwane (including Water Kloof Ridge, Elardus Park, Constantia Park, Silver Lakes, Mooikloof, The Hills, and Mamelodi) was critically low.

The levels at Vlakfontein 1 and 2 were standing at 16% and 23% respectively.

Worrying levels were also reported at the Palmiet system that supplies the western areas of Tshwane.

This reservoir supplies Centurion, Laudium, Atteridgeville, Lotus, Akasia, Roslyn, Mabopane, Ga-Rankuwa, and Soshanguve.

The system comprising the Brakfontein, Hartebeeshoek, Klipfontein, and Klipriviersberg reservoirs are all below 50% with Brakfontein at 1.71%.
