TUT Pretoria campus closed

The Pretoria campus of the Tshwane University of Technology has been closed for the day.
According to TUT spokesperson, Willa de Ruyter, the decision was taken this morning to send all staff and students home after sporadic incidents of violence erupted on the campus overnight.
Police are on standby while the fire brigade has been called in to extinguish fires that were started on the campus.
"Following an assessment of the situation at the Pretoria campus, we have decided to close the campus for today," De Ruyter says.

She adds that it is only the Pretoria campus in Pretoria West that has been closed until further notice.
"The situation is rather volatile as students protest on campus. Staff and students have been advised to go home," she says.
There is no indication of the motive behind the protest. De Ruyter says the university has been meeting with student representatives on a weekly basis.
