Tutu calls for the terminally ill to die with dignity
Anglican Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu says he supports the option of assisted dying.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate celebrated his 85th birthday in Cape Town yesterday.
Tutu paid a moving tribute to St. George's Cathedral, his home church, where he told those gathered that he's reached a stage in his life where he's closer to the departures hall than the arrivals hall.
Tutu was admitted to hospital several times last month for a persistent infection.
Now, the Arch has recorded a video for ''Dignity in Dying UK'', where he voices his approval for assisted dying.
In the video, Tutu says people who are terminally ill should have the option of dignified and compassionate assisted dying, alongside the wonderful care that already exists.
"I pray that politicians, lawmakers and religious leaders have the courage to support the choices terminally ill citizens make in departing mother earth with dignity and love", Tutu stated.
