Twist as suspect is arrested for shooting at St George’s Hospital
The investigation into the murder of a 49-year-old receptionist at St George’s Hospital in Gqeberha has taken an unexpected turn with the arrest of a 35-year-old suspect.
Carol Anne Magielies was gunned down in the hospital parking lot on Sunday just moments after finishing her shift.
Police spokesperson Sandra Janse van Rensburg says her former boyfriend fled the scene and took his own life the following day.
She says police discovered the body of 51-year-old Elgin Maghienda along Marine Drive on Monday.
Janse van Rensburg says detective work led to the arrest of a man who allegedly drove Maghienda to the crime scene and assisted in his escape.
The man was arrested in Kensington on Monday and his vehicle was confiscated.
He too will be charged with murder and is expected to appear in the local magistrate's court on Wednesday.
