Police on routine crime prevention duty spotted a suspicious white Nissan Diesel truck driving at high speed in the CBD, Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said in a statement.

The officers stopped the truck on the corner of Albertina Sisulu and Park streets in Fordsburg at 1am and found the driver alone in the cab. They opened the back and found another man hiding behind boxes. The two could not provide a reasonable explanation as to where they were taking the boxes.

While the police were still on the scene, they received information about a truck used to steal goods from the China Multi Complex on the corner of Main Reef and Hanover streets in Fordsburg, Mbele said.

It was alleged that six suspects entered the complex wearing the same uniforms worn by security guards at the complex. The men held three security guards at gunpoint and handcuffed them.

They loaded the truck “with boxes of hair pieces; 126 boxes of hair pieces were recovered”.

Four suspects were still at large. An investigation was underway and the two arrested men, aged 32 and 33, would appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, Mbele said.
