Two men killed in Limpopo mob justice incidents

Two men have been killed in separate mob justice incidents in Limpopo.

Police in Vuwani outside Thohoyandou launched a manhunt for a group of community members after a man was killed Mvelaphanda village.


Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe says it is alleged that the unknown man was assaulted by a mob who chased him.


"After the police received a report and reacted, the deceased was found lying dead in a pool of blood surrounded with an assortment of used items such as stones and wooden poles along the Mvelaphanda public tarmac road and there was nobody next to his body," says Ngoepe.


Ngoepe says the motive for his death is still unknown, but the local community members accused the deceased of being involved in criminal activities. 


No arrests have been made.

Meanwhile, the police in Hlanganani outside Giyani have also launched a manhunt for a group of community members after another unknown man was killed in Noblehoek village.


"It is alleged that members of the community have attacked and killed an unknown middle aged man with various objects, including sjamboks, killing him instantly. They accused him of committing criminal activities," says Ngoepe.


The province's Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba has strongly condemned mob justice incidents as senseless, irresponsible and barbaric acts.
