Two miners killed after rockfall at Mponeng Mine

AngloGold Ashanti has confirmed two mineworkers have been killed after a rockfall at the Mponeng Mine in Carletonville on Thursday morning.
AngloGold says there was a rockfall following seismic activity at the mine.
"This morning at roughly 09:30 there was a rockfall following a seismic event at our Mponeng Mine, which affected eight employees," says AngloGold spokesperson Chris Nthite.

He explains four of the mineworkers have since been rescued, while two others remain trapped.
On Friday Morning, Anglo Gold Ashanti's Stewart Bailey confirmed that the remaining two workers were rescued through the night and are in a stable condition.
"We've suspended all operations at the Mponeng mine, pending an investigation by the department and our own teams", added Bailey.

Nthite says rescue teams are working around the clock to find and rescue the two employees.
