Two police officers and two civilians have been arrested in Jan Kempdorp for burglary, Northern Cape police said on Tuesday.
Lieutenant Donald Mdhluli said the police received information about a robbery planned at a shop in town.
Police waited inside the shop and at 11.30pm on Monday, they heard voices in the roof.
Mdhluli said it was suspected that this was when the alarm system was disabled.
About two hours later, the hiding police officers heard more noises, while the alleged thieves broke into the shop.
Four men, two policemen and two civilians, were arrested.
One of them was shot in the leg while fleeing, said Mdhluli. "He was taken to hospital for treatment."
The four would appear in the Jan Kempdorp Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
They face charges of housebreaking and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Mdhluli said the matter was also referred to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate for further investigation.
