Two people have died after being electrocuted while fiddling with City Power infrastructure in two separate incidents.

According to City Power's Isaac Mangena, an unidentified man was killed while trying to paint City Power's high-voltage chamber (HVC) situated inside a factory in Herriotdale near George Goch east of Johannesburg in one incident.

"It is reported that two employees at the factory made an illegal entry into our HVC around 09h30 on Monday morning, after being instructed by the company owner to paint the chamber without City Power authorisarion," says Mangena.

"It's believed the deceased was caught between the high voltage equipment which electrocuted him."

The employee was certified dead on the scene by paramedics, while his colleague was thrown out of the chamber by electric force and he was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

City Power was alerted when the supplying substation tripped on impact.

The factory was isolated and City Power investigators will visit the area again with Department of Labour on Tuesday.

In another incident, the body of a man was discovered in the veld near Princess squatter camp in Roodepoort caught between electric wires this afternoon.

"According to ER Netcare, which notified City Power, the unknown man is suspected to have been electrocuted by illegal connections in the area," says Mangena.

The area has no electricity and people have illegally connected themselves onto the City Power network.

The police are involved in both cases, and City Power will give them the necessary support needed in their investigations.
