Two men appeared at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Friday for their part in the Dawn Park cash heist earlier this week.
An Elsburg South African Police Service (SAPS) clerk Vusimuzi Mahlangu (53) and Sello Selepe (39) face charges of armed robbery, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, illegal possession of explosives and murder.
This comes after a cash-in-transit robbery turned deadly on the East Rand on Wednesday.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Gauteng Phindi Mjonondwane says the pair will remain in custody.
“Mahlangu and Selepe were arrested hours later following a shootout between the police and the suspected robbers at a house in Klippoortjie, Germiston. Five of the robbers were shot and killed by the police.
“The accused were remanded in custody until 09 October for a formal bail hearing.”
Five other suspects were killed during a shootout with police at a safe house in Germiston.
Some of the stolen money was recovered.
Three stolen vehicles were also recovered at the property.
