The education quality assurance body Umalusi says while the number of matric exam irregularities have gone down, there are still concerns about cheating in exams.
The quality assurance body briefed the media on Monday morning on the anticipation of the matric 2023 national examination results for the public and private assessment bodies.
Umalusi CEO Mafu Ramoketsi says the quality assurer is concerned about the detected cases of group copying involving over 900 candidates who wrote the NSC examinations in 2023.
KZN was leading with 763 cases (80.7%) followed by Mpumalanga with 164 cases (17.7%)
Ramoketsi says the entity was also encouraged that there were no cases of leaked exam papers reported in the 2023 matric exams.
"The number of irregularities has gone down this year, and the overall picture that there no pictures that were leaked. It is also important for us to say that the system is improving.
"But for one comma something million learners, and we have an error-free examination is what we are trying to emphasise."
