Unions to discuss Eskom's latest wage offer
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Members of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), the National Union of Mineworkers of South Africa (Numsa) and Solidarity will now have to decide on Eskom's latest wage offer.
The power utility increased its wage offer by just over 1% during negotiations in Johannesburg on Thursday.
"The breakdown is as follows: 6.2 increase for 2018, 6% for the second year and 6% for the third year," says Numsa spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola.
The unions are demanding a 9% wage increase for 2018, 8.6% increase for the second year and 8.5% increase for 2020.
The latest offer will now be taken to union members for a decision.
South Africans will only know next week Friday whether the unions will embark on a national shutdown or if they have accepted Eskom’s wage offer.
