Vosloorus shack fire claims lives of two young siblings

The Ekurhuleni, Disaster and Emergency Management Services has confirmed the death of two toddlers following a shack fire on Tuesday morning.
The incident took place at the Colgate Informal settlement in Vosloorus.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the mother had left the two inside the shack while attending to other matters away from home.
The two siblings are a two-year-old boy and a ten-week-old girl who were both declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
Disaster management spokesperson William Ntladi says community members tried to extinguish the blaze to save the trapped children, but failed as both were found with hundred percent full and partial thickness burn wounds inside the shack.
"On arrival, two shacks built into each other were destroyed by the blaze and two tiny bodies lying motionlessly on the mattress remains."
The mother had apparently cooked with the paraffin stove prior to the incident.
On her return, she found her shack burnt, and both her kids killed in the fire.
The scene has been handed over to South African Police Services officers for further investigations.
