Vuwani leaders turn to Concourt over demarcation issue
Updated | By Maidi Monareng
Eight chiefs together with Vuwani residents want the Constitutional Court to decide on their demarcation dispute in the area.
Residents have for months violently protested their incorporation into another municipality.
The High Court in Polokwane dismissed the case by Vuwani residents against the Municipal Demarcation Board last month, with Judge President Ephriam Makgoba saying the board was fully within its rights to incorporate the area into one municipality with Malamulele.
The group says it wants to avoid going to the Supreme Court of Appeal, because the matter was urgent and must be resolved before local government elections later this year.
Chief Jeffery Ramovha said Venda King Mphephu Ramabulana has been notified of their intent.
"We met the King yesterday to [inform] him that we've lodged an appeal at the Constitutional Court against the judgement," Ramovha said.
