WATCH: Motorist injured in car fire on N1 in Midrand
A motorist managed to escape with only minor injuries after a car caught fire following a crash on the N1 in Midrand on Tuesday afternoon.
The crash, between the Allandale Road and New Road, led to delays from the Buccleuch interchange.
Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla says the cause of the crash is being investigated.
"The VW Polo has overturned and caught alight, three lanes on have been affected and one lane is operational. City of Johannesburg Emergency Services are on the scene and have extinguished the burning vehicle.
"SANRAL officials are also present to clear the scene. The driver of the vehicle has sustained slight injuries. Traffic is heavy on both the north N1 and south bound heading towards the accident and motorists urge to be patient.”
