Treasury has reportedly requested that the department be placed under administration, and that investigations into internal controls and project and contract management be conducted.
Water and Sanitation's Sputnik Ratau, however, insists the department's finances are under control.
"Out of the R6.5 billion that was allocated to the department for the financial year for 2016/17, the department still has an amount of R2.5 billion that's sill available until the end of the financial year - 31 March, 2017," says Ratau.
