Water restored in Joburg western suburbs
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Johannesburg Water says water supply has been fully restored to the western parts of Johannesburg after a pipe burst at Hursthill Reservoir 1 and 2.
The reservoir feeds water into Mellville, Westdene, Sophiatown, Newlands and Westbury.
Johannesburg Water's spokesperson, Isaac Dhludhlu, says the technicians restored water supply on Thursday night.
Dhludhlu adds the pipe burst might be linked to ageing infrastructure.
"A pipe burst normally happens because a pipe at some stage develops a weak spot at a certain area and you find that due to the pressure, we push the water with the weak spot cracks and the pipe bursts," says Dhludhlu.
