The outage also affected residents in Beverly Hills, Sonder Water, Graceland and Lakeside.

Earlier this month, the municipality warned residents to stop using piped water after discovering water contamination from a collapsed sewage pipe.

Municipal spokesperson Makhosonke Sangweni said, together with Rand Water, the municipality is investigating the root causes of the contamination.

"Rand Water collected daily samples from various points within the affected areas and beyond, employing strict protocols to maintain integrity and reliability.

"Since the technicians have installed a scouring valve and fire hydrants, refurbished all valve chambers, replaced all valves and the Palm Spring water meter, and repaired leaks within the 400 mm steel pipeline and disinfected the pipeline after repairs,” he said.

Experts are continuing to assess the quality of the water.

"Residents are herein informed that there has been significant improvement in the water quality from high levels of Total Coliform and E. Coli counts to zero levels,” Sangweni said.

"Scientists will continue to take samples for analysis on an ongoing basis to ensure water quality is restored."
