"We must show our true colours": Wits students

Students have condemned the Johannesburg Magistrates Court's decision not to grant former Wits SRC President Mcebo Dlamini bail, saying they will now show their true colours.

Dlamini faces fives charges, including assault, theft and malicious damage to property, relating to the violent clashes on the Wits campus earlier this month.

Speaking to students outside court, Vuyani Pambo said Wits Vice-Chancellor Adam Habib and the government have committed crimes against them.

Fellow student leader Shaeera Kalla says all members of society need to get involved when Thuli Madonsela and Jay Naidoo attend a mass meeting at Wits this afternoon.

The meeting, which has been called the 'Wits Peace Accord' will launch dialogue for unity and coalition building to win the struggle to save and fund public universities.

"This is not just our struggle. This is the struggle of the policemen who are shooting at us, because they have been ordered to. This is the struggle of teachers and lecturers who are forced to come and teach, because they risk being fired. This is the struggle of campus security whose responsibility of protecting us has been taken away. This is the struggle of the working class," she said.

People questioned the court's decision on social media.
