‘We need to conduct more random searches in schools,’ says Chiloane following fatal stabbing
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
The Gauteng Education Department says they will beef up security at schools located in hotspot areas where crime is prevalent.
MEC Matome Chiloane visited Dinokaneng Secondary School in Sebokeng on Monday.
The school was rocked by two stabbing incidents last week – with a grade 10 pupil succumbing to his injuries.
He was rushed to a local hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Chiloane blamed gangsterism for the spate of violence.
He confirmed that a suspect had been arrested after confessing to stabbing the pupil.
Westbury and Geluksdal have been identified as hotspot areas.
“We know where we have our problems. We will be beefing up security in those schools, first thing, and we also going to increase the number of patrollers.”
