Western Cape govt pleads for SANDF deployment to ‘genocidal’ Cape Town
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The provincial government in the Western Cape has pleaded with President Cyril Ramaphosa to intervene as violence continues to wrack parts of Cape Town.
At least 55 people died due to unnatural causes between midnight on Friday to Monday morning, with the deaths all resulting from gunshot wounds and sharp objects.
“The carnage is so hectic; it amounts to genocide. Please bring the army in,” says MEC for Community Safety, Albert Fritz.
Fritz thinks President Ramaphosa should also consider declaring a state of emergency in some parts of the Mother City.
