'Where's the new dawn?' asks the opposition

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Congress of the People (COPE) believe Ramaphosa's cabinet reshuffle will not bring a new dawn as promised by the governing party, but will rather be a continuation of the corrupt administration seen under former president Jacob Zuma.

Ramaphosa fired 10 ministers from his cabinet and appointed David Mabuza as his deputy.

He announced the changes at the Union Buildings late on Monday night.

The DA's Mmusi Maimane says the cabinet remains filled with compromised ministers.

He has called for the immediate removal of Mabuza.

"It is terrifying that Mabuza has been accused of creating his own personal fiefdom in Mpumalanga, where he ruled with terror and intimidation."

According to Maimane the cabinet reshuffle clearly indicates that "the ANC and connected cadres first, and the interests of South Africa second."

COPE's Mosiuoa Lekota says Ramaphosa's promise of a new dawn is false.

"Tonight's Cabinet reshuffle points to limited success by Ramaphosa to dismantle the network of state capture, looting and corruption and in putting the country on a path to socio-economic and political revival."

The EFF's Mbuyiseni Ndlozi views the reshuffle as the realignment of corruption.

Ndlozi says they reject Ramaphosa's decision, speaking out against the redeployment of some ministers "whose state capture crimes come close to treason."

"His inability to dispense with individuals implicated in corruption is evidence that no one can save the ANC from corruption. It is entangled for good," says Ndlozi.
