The World Health Organisation (WHO) has congratulated South Africa for the manner in which government has acted and is managing the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

WHO Health Emergencies Programme Executive Director, Michael Ryan, addressed a virtual international press conference in Geneve on Wednesday night and said it is interesting to see how South Africa is bringing the virus under control.
"The strategy in South Africa was based on preparations, primary prevention, lockdown and primary surveillance and 67 mobile units around the country, 28 000 community health workers trained in case detection.
"And I think with over 120 000 tests completed, with a 2.7 % positivity rate – which is incredible for that much testing for that return," says Ryan.
Ryan has also noted how African countries are leading the fight against the virus.
