Woman pleads guilty to selling baby on Gumtree
A 20-year-old woman who tried to sell her baby on Gumtree has pleaded guilty to charges of ?human trafficking, money laundering and contravening the Children’s Act.
National Prosecuting Authority spokeswoman Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said that Zama Bongiwe Madlala pleaded guilty on Monday morning in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court.
The case against Madlala was postponed to February 29 for the compilation of necessary reports needed for sentencing to be completed.
Madlala was arrested after police were tipped off. She had, earlier this year advertised her 19-month old baby for sale for R5,000 on Gumtree, an online classifieds and community website.
Ramkisson-Kara said that Madlala is currently under house arrest. - ANA
