Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande believes a contribution to skills development could ultimately save the country’s struggling state-owned enterprises.

Nzimande was delivering the keynote address at an entrepreneurship development lekgotla on Tuesday morning.
He said state-owned enterprises could get back on their feet again by playing a role in entrepreneurial skills development.

"So we are talking of relationship between academia, the post-school education and training system, the private sector and our state-owned enterprises as well.
"I, therefore, would like to encourage all our universities to work towards removing all barriers that we have.”
Nzimande said it will be down to young South Africans to get the economy back on its feet again and “not only bounce back but bounce forward".
"I find this a very interesting concept because we simply can't go back to the crisis that we have before Covid-19.So I think that slogan by Europe is an appropriate one. We want to bounce forward and bounce back.
"Therefore have our young entrepreneurs, social activist and public service and business owners be able to change communities and create new employment opportunities as they contribute to rebuilding our economy.”
