The much-anticipated month-long trial of former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede and 21 others in a multi-million-rand fraud and corruption case began on Monday.
The group's been implicated over Durban Solid Waste tender corruption allegations.
The trial is taking place at the Durban High Court.
A handful of Gumede's supporters were seen milling around outside court in the morning.
Some of the accused in the case, including former eThekwini city manager Sipho Nzuza, were also in attendance.
Thando Khuzwayo, who speaks on behalf of her supporters, says the former mayor's feeling positive.

The 22 accused are former and current municipal officials, ward councillors, business people and their companies.
They collectively face over 2 700 counts of fraud, corruption and racketeering related charges.
It's alleged that supply chain management processes on a DSW tender were bypassed, for the benefit of identified service providers for over R300 million.
