Zandile Gumede’s leave of absence extended
Updated | By ECR
The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has decided to further extend eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede’s leave of absence.

The party’s provincial executive committee (PEC) placed her on leave after she was charged with fraud, corruption, and racketeering.
Gumede’s supporters have since accused the PEC of acting prematurely by placing her on special leave.
The PEC held a briefing in Durban on the outcomes of its meeting on Tuesday.

Provincial secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli says the committee was given a progress report on the probes into Gumede, murder-accused Ntuthuko Mahlaba and eThekwini councillor Mondli Mthembu, who’s also been charged with corruption.
Ntuli says the provincial working committee still need time to finalise its work.
A month ago the PEC said the committee was expected to hand over its report at the end of last month.
