President Jacob Zuma has reassured those affected by recent flash floods that they are a top priority for government.
The President paid a visit to residents of the Stjwetla informal settlement in Alexandra this afternoon.
President Zuma met with the Chauke family whose three year-old daughter went missing during the floods.
Zuma told residents plans are in place to help those that have been left homeless.
"There are plans that have been worked on by government at all three levels for the immediate help to those who are left in destitution, but also the medium term plan to find the space to take these people, to put them in temporary housing whilst they solve the problem in the long term," says President Zuma.
The President says the issue of infrastructure along the Jukskei river will he addressed.
"Whenever it is the rainy season, from time to time it causes a lot of harm and, therefore, there are long term plans what to do with the river to control the flow of water in the future," says President Zuma.
