Montsi of Pretoria recently caught the eye of Judy Murray, mother of Andy Murray whilst competing in the junior Australian Open. Judy Murray commented that Sipho’s was “one of the most naturally talented players” she had seen.

“It feels great to be part of the Davis Cup squad at my age and as well as being the youngest player in the squad. It is always an honour to represent my country and I know I'll learn a lot from the senior players in the squad as well as coach Ondruska," said the 17-year-old teenager.

I'm really looking forward to it” said Montsi.

Murray's mom and coach in his early career, tweeted a photo with Montsi during the Australian Open in January and said: “Today I watched the most naturally gifted young player‚ Siphosothando Montsi from South Africa.”

Montsi was one of three South African juniors in Melbourne with coach Allan Karam.

The others are Philip Henning from Bloemfontein and Joshua Howard-Tripp from Boksburg.

Tennis SA are confident that the likes of Montsi and his younger brother Kholo‚ 14‚ would form the nucleus of a new “golden generation” in South African tennis.
