Biker caught doing 223km/h in Centurion

Gauteng traffic police recently arrested a 22-year-old man who was caught doing 223km/h on the N1 in Centurion.

On Sunday, a biker doing about 223km/h on the N1 in Centurion was arrested by Gauteng traffic police.

According to Rekord, the man was arrested on the spot and taken to Lyttleton police station, where he was formally charged with reckless and negligent driving.

He also received an additional charge for exceeding the general speed limit. 

Traffic Police Spokesperson Sello Maremane informed the public on Sunday that the man had been arrested: “Excessive speeding remains one of the biggest risks to road safety in the province. The majority of road fatalities are as a result of reckless and negligent driving, driving under the influence of alcohol and dangerous overtaking, especially in the face of oncoming traffic.”

“I would like to urge all law enforcement officers to leave no stone unturned in dealing decisively with those who continue to disregard the rules of the road, thus putting the lives of road users at risk."

On Monday, the man was granted bail of R1,500 after he appeared in the Pretoria Central Magistrate’s Court.
