Colonel Meow is revered among Internet cat obsessives for his perpetually smug scowl, and now he has even more reason to sneer at his adoring public.

Guinness World Records has officially recognized the two-year-old Himalayan-Persian crossbreed as the cat with the longest fur.

In order to get the hair-raising honor, three independent vets each meticulously measured 10 strands of kitty fur and came up with an average length that was submitted to Guinness.

When the fur was done flying around, the experts said Colonel Meow's average hair length was a whopping nine inches.

As you might expect, most of Colonel Meow's record-setting fur ends up on the floor, furniture and his owners Anne Marie Avey and Eric Rosario.

"Literally everything in the house has hair on it, including us!" Avey said, according to Guinness World Records. "I feel like I’m always vacuuming!”

Colonel Meow, who was adopted as a rescue cat from the Himalayan & Persian Society, needs his fur brushed 2–3 times a week, and both Avey and Rosario work together to complete the job. However, they never use products on Colonel Meow’s fur, applying only water and brushes if he gets dirty.

The Guinness honor is the cat's meow for Colonel Meow, who was already an internet sensation with the launch of his own website, Facebook page and a YouTube channel that has already racked up over 2 million views.

Colonel Meow will be featured in the Guinness World Records 2014 Edition, which will hit stores Sept. 14.

Craig Glenday, the book's editor, expects the Colonel's star to rise even more as a result.

“Colonel Meow is being groomed for stardom, and I know the furry feline will be a big hit with readers," he said. "He’s an incredible creature, and he’ll undoubtedly inspire people all around to the world to whip out their rulers and start measuring their own cat’s fur."
