Lonely 29-year-old arrested for pretending to be high school teenager

While '21 Jump Street' might be a fictional depiction of two grown men returning to high school, one 29-year-old woman recently tried to fool fellow students and school employees when she pretended to be younger than she really was.

After going through a divorce, Hyejeong Shin felt depressed and incredibly lonely, so she did the only thing that made sense at the time: returning to a simpler time in her life.

Unfortunately, since time travel doesn't exist, the scientist had to pretend to be a 15-year-old teenager and falsify birth certificates before enrolling at New Brunswick High School in New Jersey.

Shin enrolled in January 2023 but was only in school for four days before it was revealed that she had lied about her age and the documents she had provided were proven to be false.

After being arrested Shin pleaded not guilty to the charges made against her but she could face up to five years imprisonment.

Her lawyer, Darren M. Gelber, said that the issue might be hard for people to understand but that she meant no harm.

While she has been banned from the school, she is apparently still texting students, asking to meet with them outside the property.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for the 15th of May and she hopes to clear her name. After the case she will be returning to her home country, South Korea.
