When people try to learn a new language they usually opt for the more "popular" ones.

LISTEN: 'Step Up 2' actress talks about her new South African life

Spanish, French, Italian, English, Japanese, you get the idea.

As South Africans, we tend to get quite excited when we see people learning one of our 11 official languages.

From Zulu to Venda, our country has a rich and diverse language offering, unlike any in the world.

LISTEN: Everyone from Centurion knows 'Annetjie met die kannetjie'

No matter what language you are trying to learn, there are some parts that will always sound weird or not make complete sense even if you are fluent.

A popular Canadian TikToker has been studying Afrikaans for some time and has been sharing some of his favourite bits about the language.

Known as @thepolyglotfiles on the social media platform, he is very fluent in Afrikaans and in a series of videos he discusses the weirder side of the language.

More specifically, he directly translates some Afrikaans words to English, which makes the Afrikaans sound kind of crazy.

Take a look:

He is also a massive fan of Afrikaans and talks about the language very lovingly and positively:

We love to see him spreading the knowledge!
