In April 2012, the brutal murder of the Steenkamp family left South Africans reeling - and also made international news.

Deon (44), Christelle (43), and their 14-year-old daughter Marthella were brutally murdered on their farm, Naauwhoek.

Marthella was also raped prior to the murder.

According to Jacaranda FM News, in 2014, Northern Cape Judge President Frans Kgomo sentenced the Steenkamp's 17-year-old son to 20 years imprisonment for each of the three murder convictions, 14 years for the rape conviction, and four years for lying to the police. All sentences would run concurrently.

In 2020, the film telling the story of the horrific Griekwastad murders hit the big screen.

Alex van Dyk, who played the role of 'Don Steenkamp', joined the Scenic Drive to share more about his role.

"It was very sensitive to film this story.

"All I want to know from Don Steenkamp is why he did it, and what led him to do it," Van Dyk.
