Friday, 26 January marks 100 days to the kick-off of the first 100 Cycle Challenge, a 100km road race to be held in the City of Ekurhuleni on Sunday, 6 May 2018.

The 100-day countdown has been launched with a new campaign, 'Learn to Cycle in 100 Days', which is aimed at encouraging mass participation by demonstrating that anyone can get on a bike and take on the challenge.

Thabiso Khambule, the 100 Cycle Challenge brand ambassador, and Jacaranda FM’s Scenic Drive traffic presenter will document his journey to get fit and ready for the 100km route. This is the first time he’s ever participated in a race!

Robyn Thekiso, the spokesperson for the 100 Cycle Challenge, is rearing to go: "The excitement is heating up! We’re not just counting down 100 days, we have new partners on board".
Thekiso adds that the cycle event has the potential to draw more people to the sport: "The growth potential for cycling is massive and we want to show that the sport is accessible to all".

The 100 Cycle Challenge takes place on Sunday, 6 May 2018 and, thereafter, annually on the first Sunday in May.
The race starts and ends at Germiston Lake in the City of Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. Adding one of the fastest routes over this distance at the end of autumn to the cycling calendar has been welcomed by cyclists across South Africa.
