The latest South African business to put efforts towards alleviating the water crisis in Cape Town is the local airline, FlySafair.

The domestic carrier says that passengers will be allowed to carry sealed 5l bottles of water on flights to Cape Town.

Speaking to IOL, FlySafair sales and distribution head Kim Gordon said: 'People want to carry their own water when travelling to the city and feel they are limiting the burden on the city’s resources and we respect that.'

The airline does, however, advise travellers to consider alternative ways of sending water over, as 'transporting water this way is far more carbon intensive than transporting it by other means'.
