From a young age, Koos Kombuis was a rebel.

Kombuis rejected the values of the conservative Afrikaner society into which he had been born. He was incorrectly diagnosed with schizophrenia and spent a year in a mental institution in Pretoria.

"I made my parents crazy. I followed them around in the house and read my poems out loud. They took me to a psychologist - and I was put into a ward with drug addicts and schizophrenia patients," Koos Kombuis wrote on his official website

That's when Kombuis fell in love with music - and started to write his own music.

Kombuis was a member of the Gereformeerde Blues Band, but left the band to forge a solo career. Kombuis joined Johannes Kerkorrel, James Phillips, and the GBB on the Voëlvry tour, as a solo artist.

After the tour ended, Kombuis continued his solo music career and still performs regularly.

Koos Kombuis joined the Scenic Drive team to talk about his new show, 'Koos In Kwarantyn', the lockdown, and more.

'Koos In Kwarantyn'

"I'm so looking forward to this show.

"It's lockdown so I started to learn new skills. In the show, 'Koos In Kwarantyn', I will perform some of my new songs.

"I'm nervous because it's new music."

The National Lockdown

"We can't blame anyone for this lockdown. We never planned for it.

"I can only thank Ramaphosa for his work. Yes, they are making mistakes, but it's human mistakes - they haven't been in this position before."
