South African flags are flying at half-mast to honour the legendary actress Shaleen Surtie-Richards ahead of her funeral.

Flags across the Western Cape are flying at half-mast to honour the legendary actress Shaleen Surtie-Richards (66).
President Cyril Ramaphosa has bestowed Surtie-Richards a category 2 special provincial funeral.

Surtie-Richards will be laid to rest at the Durbanville Memorial Park, in Cape Town, on Sunday.
Surtie-Richards died in a Cape Town guesthouse on Monday while filming 'Arendsvlei', a kykNET telenovela.
Surtie-Richards finished filming her last scenes as the retired nurse 'Muriel Foster' last week Thursday.
Surtie-Richards first made her appearance in the kykNET telenovela in 2019 as the mother of 'Lionel Foster', played by Jody Abrahams.

"Shaleen has completed filming her part as 'Muriel Foster' with us on Thursday in good spirits," Tarryn Josephs, 'Arendsvlei' publicist told Jacaranda FM.
"Shaleen tackled her role as 'Muriel' with the same enthusiasm, generosity, and talent that she has tackled all of her roles."
Surtie-Richards is best known for her television roles on shows such as 'Generations', '7de Laan' and 'Egoli', and 'Fiela Komoetie' in the iconic film 'Fiela Se Kind'.
