GOOD MORNING ANGELS 2 NOVEMBER 2016 (CATARACTS/INTERCARE 26 SEPTEMBER 2016)

ANGEL: Intercare Day hospitals and staff at Hazeldean and Sandton

SPONSORING: Cataract screening and operations for 8 patients, free of charge.

BACKGROUND:

Eyesight is a most precious gift, but millions of people across the globe suffer from blindness caused by cataracts. Perhaps even more tragic, is the fact that in most cases this condition is completely reversible with surgery. Cataracts affect the transparency of the lens of the eye. In simple terms, it’s like looking through a fogged up window. Other signs include half glare, sensitivity to light and difficulty with night vision. In September, Good Morning Angels received a very generous offer from Intercare Day Hospitals in Hazeldean and Sandton. Each hospital offered to do cataract removal operations, free of charge for three cataract sufferers in need and to give them the gift of renewed sight and a new life. We asked you to send requests and we were inundated. We sent all the requests to interact and they had the difficult task to select qualifying candidates. In the end each hospital helped four people - that’s  total of 8 people - whose eyesight has been restored!

Kennith Leith:

Good morning,

I am emailing you as I heard about the amazing gift from your Angels team this morning on the radio. My father in-law is a master carpenter by trade. Over the last 6 years, his cataracts in both eyes have been gradually getting worse to the point now where he cannot work anymore. He cannot drive or handle any heavy machinery which makes his work impossible.

We have been trying to help him and my mother in-law with financial assistance but their combined income is R4500.00 a month. They cannot afford medical aid and we feel he is the perfect candidate for one of your operations. He has lost all motivation and his hopelessness is extremely sad as he cannot do what he loves anymore and provide for his family.

His craft is who he is. He sleeps all day and doesn't even want to get up to do anything. He is depressed no matter how we all try to help him maybe do something else.

I hope you read this email favourably and truly consider him for one of these operations.

He needs help badly.

Yours faithfully,

Fallon Leith
