Karen Zoid shares touching memories of Hugh Masekela

South African rocker, Karen Zoid, has shared a heart-warming tribute to the late Hugh Masekela.

She took to Instagram to share her memories of him when he employed her at his club when she was just 17 yeara old.


Masekela, who is an internationally acclaimed jazz musician, lost his battle with prostate cancer this week.

Tussen Kippies in Newtown en Bassline in Melville het ek in twee jaar meer wêreldklas african jazz "live" beleef as wat meeste fans in 'n leeftyd kan kyk. As kelnerin in Kippies het ek mense soos Brenda Fassie, Ringo en Moses Molelekwa bedien en ek het selfs 'n paar keer op die verhoog beland as backing vocalist vir van hierdie kunstenaars. Meneer Masekela was 'n kwaai baas, maar 'n baie ruimhartige persoon wat goed betaal het en regverdig was teenoor sy mense. Sy toewyding teenoor die kunste in Suid-Afrika en sy kinderlike liefde teenoor musiek spesifiek bly vir altyd 'n inspirasie vir my. Mag sy familie en vriende vertroosting vind op hierdie dag. Rest in peace Chief. 🥃🎺❤️

His family released a statement saying Masekela died peacefully while surrounded by family.
