Miss SA's national gift to Miss Universe unveiled

Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters' national gift comes with a hefty price tag.

The Miss SA 2017 will be taking a piece of South African jewellery to the Miss Universe 2017 in Las Vegas.
The gift boasts the best of South Africa's natural resources and is valued at R130 000 and is produced by Jack Friedman.

It was inspired by the dreamy fields of Namaqualand Daisies which blossoms along the West Coast for one week every spring.

What is probably most significant and sentimental is the case in which the pendant is kept.
The box design incorporates an oak tree that was burnt to near coal in the devastating Knysna fires in June.

It has extra value as the 22-year-old Nel-Peters was born and raised in Sedgefield near Knysna in the Western Cape.

Nel-Peters is confident of a win.
