Flash floods are common in many parts of the country especially with the amount of rainfall we've been receiving lately. These should not be taken lightly.
If you do get stuck in your car during a flood, there are things you can do to survive this:
1. Climb to higher ground and stay there.
2. Avoid walking through floodwaters - even 15 centimetres deep can sweep you off your feet.
3. If floodwaters rise around your car but the water is not moving, abandon the car and move to higher ground.
4. Never drive through a flooded road as the road may be washed away.
5. If you get swept away in the flood waters, try to grab onto anything you can to pull yourself to safety.
