Rock Stars Day Job's Before They Were Famous!
Updated | By Michael Savage

Being a rockstar is all about living large, but before they got there, some of the most well known stars today had normal jobs before they made it big! Here are some examples…
Jack White, the upholsterer
Before 'The White Stripes' and becoming world-renound for his deep-south blues rock sound, guitarist Jack White was an upholsterer; and a pretty good one too! He had his own business - Third Man Upholstery. Although it wasn't losing him money, he decided to end it because apparently he was useless at the management side of things. Oh, and then he got famous too, which helped.
Ozzy Osbourne and the slaughterhouse
Before Black Sabbath fame brought him his many riches, the Prince Of Darkness worked, aptly, in a slaghuis. He worked there for two years before stardom beckoned with Black Sabbath.
Tony Iommi and his nasty industrial accident
Speaking of the band Black Sabbath, guitarist Tony Iommi worked in a steel factory where he famously lost the tips of his middle and ring fingers in an industrial accident. Ouch!
Noel from Oasis 'The Roadie'
Gallagher Senior was a roadie with ‘Inspiral Carpets’ before joining Oasis. He toured with the Manchester legends for two years before leaving and starting Oasis. Hopefully the fellow Mancunians weren't too bitter...
Brandon Flower’s big Vegas adventure before The Killers
The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers was a bellhop in a Las Vegas hotel before making it big with his band The Killers. He's since told journalists that the job was horrendous. Imagine dropping your bags off at a hotel and seeing the Mr. Brightside singer carrying them off! Crazy!
Anyone for tennis, Keith Richards?
Rolling Stones guitarist Kieth Richards once worked as a ball boy at a tennis club! We are trying to imagine Kieth in tennis shorts. It’s not happening!
Mick Jagger the porter
Before winning the hearts of music fans the world over with the Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger worked as a porter in a mental hospital. Supposedly he earned just over four pounds a week. It's safe to say his decision to leave his ‘normal’ for his band was a good one.
Kurt Cobain, the Janitor
Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain worked as a janitor at a school before inventing grunge music.
Hey, maybe it’s where he got the idea from?
The Clash’s Joe Strummer, the grave digger
Joe Strummer of The Clash was unbelievably a grave digger at St Woolos Cemetery in Newport, Wales in the years before forming The Clash. Arent we glad he decided to rock the Kasbah instead!
Finding work with Ian Curtis
Before becoming the mesmerising frontman of 70’s & 80’s band Joy Division, Ian Curtis used to work for the Manpower Services Commission in Manchester, followed by a posting at the local Job Centre in Macclesfield, finding work for disabled people.
