This is why setting healthy boundaries at work is important.

Taking leave days is something everyone deserves, but it's not always possible to do when you work in a fast-paced environment.

A post on Reddit grabbed our attention when the poster shared that their wife's boss had asked her for a doctor's note.

But the tricky part is that the doctor's note was not for the wife, but rather for the wife's partner, who identifies as a trans woman.

The poster shared that their wife has been working for a nationwide restaurant for three years and doesn't get paid time off.

Which has left her with a lot of saved leave days. The poster who is going through gender-affirming surgery needed to go in for a consultation and so their wife took a few days off.

Mind you, the wife put in her leave application three months prior to the consultation.

Sounds like she had all her ducks in a row, but not quite.

The boss has now asked the wife (his employee) for her partner's doctor's note to prove the surgery so she can explain - or should we say justify her leave.

"However now, with the operation two weeks away, her boss has asked her to provide detailed proof of my surgery to explain why she is taking an absence. This is a gender-affirming surgery and I do not want some stranger to know about it. Also, if her boss all of a sudden knew she was married to a trans woman I do not want to think about how that would affect how she is treated at work. I have never even visited the restaurant let alone seen this man and I do not think it is right or even legal for him to demand my medical records." (Reddit)

People were shocked that the boss was so invasive of his employee's private life. Explaining what she would be doing for her vacation days isn't something that a boss usually asks for...
