As we get over the excitement of one of the most prestigious marathons in the world, The Comrades, we celebrate the underlying reasons people run.

For some it is a passion, for others it is a way of coping - coping with mental well-being, emotions, pushing through a tough time, and much more.

But this story of a marathon runner named Trevor really touched our hearts...

And it got us thinking about what each of the runners who participated at the Comrades on Sunday were driven by. So we are dedicating this piece to all of the Comrades runners, whether you finished or not, we salute you...

A video showing Trevor crossing the finish line shows him share a moment with his dad who is seated in a wheelchair in the crowd at the finish line.

They both point to each other and Trevor looks so happy to see his father. Then we learn that this was in fact the last race his father attended before passing on.

His father was diagnosed with a progressive brain disease that had no cure.

One of the last outings prior to his passing was to one of Trevor's marathons.

And seeing the emotions between them as they embrace after the race just opened up the topic that sometimes running isn't just about running, but is something much, much deeper.
