Many parents have to help their children deal with the stress that comes with writing exams. This can sometimes be challenging for parents.

Don't stress though, as we have a few tips for you on how, as a parent, you can help your child get the best results they possible can out of this exam season.

Minimise their chores

If your child does house chores during the week, such as helping with dishes and cleaning, for the exam season, minimise their chores. This will give them extra time to study for their exams. If you feel you will not be able to handle the house chores on your own, get a part-time helper who will help with the chores. This will not only free your child some time, but you will also have peace knowing that your house will be clean and you don’t have to start by cleaning when you return from work.

Allow them breaks inbetween studying

Don’t force your child to study all the time without breaks. If they feel like taking a 15-minute or 30-minute break, allow them to do so. Your child knows when their mind needs a break, and you need to be understanding of that.

Reduce noise in the house

Noise can be a distraction when it comes to studying. Try reduce the volume of your television and music. If you have other children staying in the house who are not studying, do not let them make noise. Make them aware of the one studying and that he may be needing quietness in order to effectively study.

Healthy sleeping

Discuss your child’s timetable and their study schedule, and ensure that they get enough sleep. Lack of sleep brings problems such as anxiety and tiredness, which can have a negative impact on their exams.

Give them words of encouragement

Let your child know you believe in them. A compliment goes a long way and could just be what your child needs to smash that exam paper. Let them know that they are not a failure and share some of their previous successes with them. This will make them believe in themselves and boost their confidence.
