The ruling party briefed media on Monday on its state of readiness ahead of the polls on Wednesday.

The ANC will be contesting almost all wards in the 213 municipalities. 90 000 party agents will be deployed to monitor administration and voting.

Reading the statement Secretary General Gwede Mantashe said like all other elections, this election is about the people.

"It is about the ANC renewing our mandate to continue creating a better life for our people. We have listened and understood the challenges and we continue to address them and have plans to do even more." he said

While this is said to be the most hotly contested election since 1994, the ruling party says it is confident and it's work speaks for itself.

"For us victory is certain. We are certain of victory because our people have shown us that they know the work of the ANC. Victory is certain because we remain committed to serving the needs of our people. We must demystify the notion that the ANC has already won. Every vote counts and every one of us must be counted." Mantashe said

Mantashe also took a moment to call out DA leader Mmusi Maimane for saying that he voted for Nelson Mandela in 1994

"A man born in June 1980 has gone public saying he voted for Mandela. If a leader of a party can tell lies with impunity that is bad for politics. Maimane was 14 in 1994 he couldn't have voted. Lies have short legs and if you tell them out of excitement they will catch up with you"
