At least 20 dead on N1 in 24 hours

At least 20 people have died in road crashes on the N1 in Limpopo in just 24 hours.

The victims died in two separate crashes.
The major crashes claimed the lives of 12 and eight people.
The Limpopo transport department has condemned the carnage.

Eight people died in a multi-vehicle pileup on the N1 in Limpopo on Friday.
Provincial police say the pileup happened on the N1 south in Mookgopong near Modimolle.
Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe says a truck was involved in the crash.

"It is alleged that three cars and a truck collided during a pile-up where five occupants of a double cab died instantly and the other three who died were passengers in other cars," he says.
On Thursday night, 12 people died in a crash on the N1 south in Botlokwa.
The provincial health department says a taxi hit a donkey and then crashed into a truck.
Limpopo transport spokesperson Allen Matsina says 11 people died on the scene.
The twelfth victim died in hospital.
