Aircraft deployed in search for five missing lions
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
Wildlife authorities have intensified a search for five lions on the loose in the West Rand area.
The Captured in Africa Foundation's Drew Abrahamson says four different types of aircraft have now been deployed to intensify the search for the five missing lions.
"Last night's mission was quiet. We have laid the bait trap where the callout took 5 hours to complete but the missing lions were not spotted. We have now deployed various different types of aircraft for air support. The use of these aircraft will help us to widen the search".
A young male was initially believed to be alone after it was seen walking past a Fochville resident's gate. CCTV cameras however came across what appears to be a pride, led by a dominant male.
Wildlife authorities are still trying to make contact with the owner of the five lions.
"We haven't heard any news of the owner. We are following up on a lead and hope to have a positive outcome by the end of today," says Abrahamson.
