Caster Semenya wins 800m gold

 South African athlete Caster Semenya has won gold in the 800m final at the IAAF World Championships.

She came from behind and cruised to the finish line in the last 200m of the race.

 

Semenya scooped her third World Championship gold in a time of 1:55:16 – a personal best for the top athlete.

 

The Olympic champion added gold to the bronze she won in the 1500m.

 

She also set a new national record, beating her previous best time by more than a tenth of a second.



Burundian Francine Niyonsaba claimed silver finishing with a time of 1:55.92.


American Ajee Wilson finished third in 1:56.65.


South Africans couldn't be more proud!
